Manny Morte first started plying his trade in Hillbrow in the late seventies.  Armed with an unparalleled work ethic and a great passion for meat, trading and service – he started building his butchery skills along with his brother in law. His Brother then joined the business and the three of them and their crew serviced the families and business in the vicinity and surrounds. When business and the area started to stagnate. Manny took a plunge on his own buying a small neighborhood business in Craighall. Craighall Meat thrived in the community and Manny built countless relationships with people in the neighborhood and beyond. He was probably the first butcher in the country to be ageing steak cuts, caressing them with fine olive oils, herbs and spices. Slow simmering marinades and dressing South Africans fine fare that our farmers are notorious for. Hand cutting biltong deep into the night to service the demand that had been built for his slow cured delights. At the turn of the millenium Frank de Agrela the owner of the world famous Impala Fruit & Veg acquired the Northcliff House building and invited Manny to open a butchery. Manny’s son Jon was entrusted with the running of the Northcliff operation and over the last two decades he has managed to guide the institution on a steady, positive trajectory. Many strong relationships have been built with some of South Africa’s best and most passionate farmers, securing consistent supply of the best Organic, Grass Fed and conventional export quality proteins our wonderful country has to offer.

Grass Fed or Organic Beef always.

We are the exclusive patrons of Braeside Grass-Fed beef as well as Doornpoort Organic Beef. Both of these meat farming protocols ensure that the beef and produce is anti-biotic fee, hormone free, completely pasture raised and happy free animals. These are the types of proteins that we should always be consuming. Every effort is made from start to finish that these animals are free from all nasty man made stimulants, hormones or medication – with neither being introduced to the cattle or on the land that they roam. 

The Cured - Biltong and Dry Wors

We produce award winning Biltong and Dry Wors. Season and supply dependent we utilize Grass Fed Beef, Organic beef, Wagyu Beef, Klein Karoo Lamb and Venison. It is a great privilege for us to be involved in the creation of the cured delights that most South Africans hold so close to their hearts. Come in and treat yourself.
